Whenever you plan a vacation, or a weekend away, it can be difficult to remember everything that you should pack. But when the outdoors, and adventure, are involved then packing becomes incredibly difficult. So, if you find yourself standing over your suitcase and backpacks, wondering about the gear to pack on your next adventure (Even when you plan to use The Island at Rock Creek as a base camp, packing for an adventure can be stressful), here are a few tips that will help to ensure that you adventure goes as enjoyably as planned.
When it comes to clothing and adventure, especially in the mountains where the weather is unpredictable, layering is important. Every piece of clothing you plan to bring or wear should have its own function; layering doesn’t only mean wearing multiple items of clothing such as multiple t-shirts to keep warm. It’s a good idea to have clothing that is good next to the skin and clothing that is good as either a mid-weight layer or heavyweight layer. In the summertime in the mountains it’s likely warm enough that a good packable jacket in a backpack and a mid-weight or lightweight top will suffice, but if the forecast even hints at cooler weather then more layers may be important (Even packing away layers within a backpack can make the difference in an experience that’s either comfortable and enjoyable or miserable.
It’s also a good idea to pack water and food. And when you plan to be out in the remote areas of the mountains, then it’s probably a good idea to pack a device or pill that can clean water. When you’re out on the trail and you have an emergency, one of the first things to consider is water. Pills are simple and economically-sized for packing, whereas water filtration systems are terrific multiple-use items that are small enough to pack within a backpack and provide ample amounts of drinking water.
Hopefully when you pack for your next adventure you pack well, and remember The Island at Rock Creek for you luxurious basecamp needs.
